🌍 Pangaea
When everything is put together
Pangaea is an opinionated, batteries-included Unix configuration for Linux and macOS, built entirely on Nix, NixOS, nix-darwin, and Home Manager.
The goal is simple: a complete, reproducible, declarative Unix environment that you can take to any machine — laptop, desktop, or Mac — and feel at home. No manual setup. No configuration drift. No "works on my machine".
What's inside
- 🐧 NixOS — full Linux system configuration
- 🍎 macOS — via nix-darwin, with Homebrew integration
- 🏠 Home Manager — user environment, same config across both platforms
- 🧠 Niquisvim — a custom Neovim distribution, built with nixvim
Everything is structured around the Dendritic Pattern: features define themselves across all platforms in one place, and hosts are assembled from those features. The entire flake entry point is four lines.
Platforms & hosts
| Host | Platform | System |
|---|---|---|
sofia |
NixOS | x86_64-linux |
taxnix |
macOS | aarch64-darwin |
Getting started
Pangaea is my personal configuration and isn't designed yet to be dropped into someone else's machine as-is. The goal, though, is to eventually get there — either as a complete, ready-to-use system, or as something you can pull into your own flake and selectively adopt what you want, customizing only what differs from the defaults.
For now, if you want to explore, fork, or learn from it, start with the Architecture docs.
To build a host (assuming Nix with flakes enabled):
# NixOS
nh os switch
# macOS
nh darwin switch

Acknowledgements
Pangaea wouldn't exist without the work of people who wrote things down and shared them.
The architectural backbone of this config — the Dendritic Pattern — comes from mightyiam. The practical guide by Doc-Steve on using it with flake-parts was essential reading. If you want to understand why this repo is structured the way it is, start there.
But before any of that, there was Neve ❤️
Neve is a Neovim configuration built with nixvim by redyf. It was the first Nix repo I looked at and thought "oh, this is what Nix can actually be" — the spark that made me want to go deeper into Nix itself, and the practical base I kept coming back to while learning. Everything that eventually led to Pangaea traces back to that moment. Niquisvim, Pangaea's own Neovim distribution, is a direct descendant of that journey.
So: thank you, redyf. Genuinely.
Built with ❤️ and way too much weed 🌿
